Cue the title card

Mark Grayson (Steven Yuen) and Nolan Grayson (JK Simmons) team up for the Viltrimite war

Season 4 of the ultra-successful prime animated series broke into viewers homes last week, with further episodes releasing weekly until the current arc concludes. Adapted from the comic series that Robert Kirkman, co-creator of The Walking Dead brought to life with artists Cory Walker and Ryan Ottley.

At the conclusion of the previous season, a tease was made in regards to a story element never before seen in the source material, a plot that would focus around Damien Darkblood. The devil detective from the first season. The upcoming episode, titled “Hurm” will be a payoff to this loose thread. This is something that I am cautiously optimistic for. Kirkman described the transformation from book into show as a sort of “second draft”[1]. I think is healthier than trying to perfectly replicate something, but also allows for these additional stories join the fray in an organic yet mindful manner.

Season 4 will be exploring a major plotline, “The Viltrimite war”. A segment of the comics that were highly captivating, holding the first team up of the Grayson men as they work with the coalition of planets to take out the remaining Viltrimites. Oliver gains time to shine in this battle, facing impossible odds yet giving it his all. Season 4 has been doing wonders for his character development and they have great circumstances to keep that flow. A highly engaging arc all around, one that should be handled well to ensure the epic proportions take flight when adopted to the silver screen.

Outside of the show, Invincible is at an all time high, hitting the pop culture market from multiple angles.

Enter: Invincible Vs

Invincible Vs is a 3v3 fighting game that takes inspiration from the explosive and wild examples that Street Fighter or Tekken have set over the decades. Launching on April 30, 2026, a unique cell shaded comic aesthetic dominates the art style. I am personally not fully sold on the art style, but am sold on the fact that a brand new cinematic story will be featured for players to experience.

The absence of DC’s Injustice a crater has been left opened for superhero fighting games. What is most impressive about this title, is the fact that it exists to begin with. Invincible as a universe has been around for sometime. But the show, and if we are being honest, the peak interaction arrived after the show begun in 2021. This was in a time before Marvel had lost there footing as the king of superhero media distribution. Part of what made such a stand out series was the more mature exploration of having powers, the trauma of betrayal, and building identity. To see it blossom into a multi-platform entity half a decade Later is great and further instils admiration for Kirkman and the image team. Like it or not, they made an empire that stood tall in one of the most flooded periods of superhero production, an impressive feat.

A Beginning roster will include 18 characters, with 1 fully original member, Ella Mental, who as you may have guessed it… Can control elements. Initial trailers do showcase gameplay that looks fun, flashy and spectacular. Various editions of the game will be available, one of which is for select retailers such as comic shops around the globe. Speaking of….

Invincible Universe Presents: Battle Beast

In 2025 a 6-part Battle Beast comic was released the expand the lore of the famed combatant. Kirkman and Ottley team up again and it is a treat. Ottley has very definitive linework that peaks with a character like Battle Beast, his artwork has great foundation and healthy bulk. A well exercised style to be presented when you consider the Juggernaut and other foes the titular hunter comes across.

Issue #7 released a few weeks again, with issue #8 joining the already epic April. This is a fun series with interesting depth, studying a character who’s wrath is what he seeks to be resolved from, constantly seeking out a battle so great that his demise is reached. His fury saved his people once, but cost him the rest of his life. A brutal depiction of addiction is a consistent theme.

Outside of that, the book is a lot of fun. The colours are very vibrant and the exploration of the cosmos is a treat for the eyes. The action scenes are really splashy, both in content and coating.

A prize for everyone awaits, whether of Gaming, TV, Comics or some combination of the 3, there’s truly something for all fans of the Invincible world to be found in the coming month.

Invincible season 4 is currently Airing, Battle Beast Issue #8 releases April 15, 2026 and Invincible Vs Launches April 30, 2026.
