The world is in a bit of a tricky place right now. Financial hardships seem more potent than ever, conflicts are erupting across the globe and uncertainty is in the air. What is certain, is that 2026 is shaping up to be a powerhouse for gaming, the biggest year in quite sometime. The first title in that list to drop, is Resident Evil Requiem, Which Launched February 27th, 2026, Capcoms ninth mainline entry in its three-decade long survival horror series. However, Some of us find ourselves at a time when cash must be regarded with a bit more delicacy, so we are forced to hold out until luck returns to our side. By now, most people know everything they need to know about the game, extensive previews gave us a detail look at established legend Leon S Kennedy, along with newcomer Grace Ashcroft. Today isn’t about that, today is about avoiding spoilers a little longer, and finding ways to fill the void that calls for a survival horror adventure.

When near a tsunami, find high ground:

5 years have passed since the launch of RE: VILLAGE and fans have been eager for more since then. The beauty of a series like this, is that new characters are very organically introduced into the world. There will always be fan favourites, but Capcom is not afraid to experiment, a massive part of their great success. When there is hype there is attention, when there is attention there is coverage, which is good, but in the modern world, it makes avoiding spoilers harder than ever.

Use it as a good excuse to reduce social media exposure, many of us intend to do that anyhow. Be mindful of the key words that you search up, and try avoid reviews altogether. I have learnt that the hard way several times over my life. While finding photos to include in my article, I had to turn on tunnel vision, worried that crucial plot elements would be laid bare. For all I know maybe they were. Personally, don’t even talk about it near your phone, I have no doubt it will start re-directing your feed.

Accolades trailers are fine, that is seemingly inevitable for a game of such massive proportions. Giving yourself a bit of grace (No Pun intended, that just happened) by saving reviews until after you have found the opportunity to play. I believe that at times, reading to many reviews prior to our personal engagement can actually plant seeds that slightly lean us one way or the other, as we will be approaching it thinking we understand what to expect. Not just in story elements, but in terms of quality.

Memory Lane and The Neighbours Down The Street:

What is cathartic with any franchise, and has become quite the personal tradition, is playing the previous entries over again, at least the recent ones. In this case I would primarily focus on RE4 Remake and RE7, as these have been the two most influential on the series gaining a second life.

RE7 will warm up our fear factor whilst RE4 four will get our trigger finger ready to rumble, (It might even take our right hand off). Let’s be honest, if you’ve been holding back on replaying a series you love for whatever reason, now’s the time to cut loose. Playing the stories of Racoon City is probably a fair idea of it’s own, as it’s highly likely to expect many reference to the originals, especially knowing that the old Racoon Police Department makes a special appearance in Requiem.

Another solution is simple. Any games that meet the genre of your favourite RE entries that have been sitting in your backlog, dig them out. Games like Alan Wake, Outlast, Until Dawn, whatever scratches that survival/Horror itch. It might sound silly, but titles like Hello neighbour could even be on the cards, after all, it is a tale about escaping a dangerous individual who has imprisoned you in an evolving labyrinth.

Be mindful if you haven’t played titles like Outlast before, or if it has been a while. I have had it sitting in my library as I sense the terror radiating out of it.

If the wait must be extended, Easter season is around the corner. Despite being so close to the release of RE REQUIEM, possibility is there that a slight sale may be applied. If you can, jump at it, full price will come back just as fast and be there to stay. Third party games are more generous in that sense though, so that does offer an extra spark of light.

Boasting the option to play third or first person, mixing stealth and action, gunplay and classic melee blended with modern weaponry. Coupled with a brand new story, a dash of fan service, and gorgeous fidelity.

REQUIEM will be a treat. The Launch Trailer can be found below.
