Talk about having a strong foundation.

Thoughts on the inspiration behind the next Chapter of the DCU:
Adapting from the limited series of the same name, James Gunn’s DCU will embark on its next big screen quest with a solo film about Kara Zor-El, in the 2026 film, Supergirl – Woman of Tomorrow.
The original comic run, was written by Eisner winner Tom king, with art by the elegent hands of Bilquis Evely. I recently came across the deluxe hardcover version of this story and decided to take a leap of faith. I can tell you without a doubt, it paid off. Originally launching in 2021, the series still maintains a strong position on the top selling graphic novels 4 years on, as per ICv2.
Woman of tomorrow is a tale of hope, compassion and vengence, one handled with grace that explores how Supergirl is viewed through the eyes of those around her by focusing on the point of view of a young girl named Ruthye who she meets around the time of her 21st birthday.

There is many reasons why this is the source material for the film. Without giving to much away, it is something I would call a must read for those interested in the upcoming film, or even curious about DC in general. This was my first time reading a Supergirl comic and the bar has been set high.
Also, I can’t state enough how good the art is. Reading this book was an experience, not a task. Seriously. Check it out.
Milly Alcock, an up-and-coming Australian actress will be playing the titular hero, who we were first introduced to through a brief cameo in Superman (2025). So far she has maintained strong press silence in interviews and demonstrates a great sense of genuine interest in the role she is immersing into.
An interesting note is that the film will also feature Jason Momoa as Lobo, a wildcard character from DC’s portfolio. Momoa as Lobo is something many fans have wanted for years, so much so that even after playing the role of Aquaman in the previous Live-Action DC universe, he was the perfect choice. The DC Showcase Podcast details how this all came to life, and why James Gunn sought him out.
How exactly the book is to be adapted, and how much is altered is yet to be seen. The film launches in cinema’s June 26, 2026. Remember to always, Look Up.
Until next time,
– Nick Roberts, September 2025
